No Mohr Hiding

1 min read
Ladies and gentlemen, I have a confession to make. The reason I haven't posted a lot of my drawings and comics on here is because of one reason and one reason alone...

...They were for this book: www.amazon.com/Silverheart-Tho…

...That and my last name's Mohr. Wait, YOU KNEW?!! Never mind then.

Yes sir, this is the project that I've spent the past three years writing, drawing, editing, re-drawing, re-writing, blah blah blah.

Anyway, just buy a copy and enjoy it!

Sincerely- Gumshoe

1) My trusty pencil for helping me dream up ideas/doodles.

2) Paper for holding my ideas/doodles.

3) My pens for finalizing my doodles and making them easier to scan.

4) My grandparents internet. For without it, you wouldn't be able to read this post.

Well apparently not me anymore, that's for sure. In terms of my comic art, I don't want to draw the same old cute faces anymore. And like I said in my previous deviation, "If you want a manga artist, GO TO JAPAN!" (Not to sound harsh or anything...)

And there's just so much debate over what should be considered manga and what shouldn't, that it's driving me CRAZY!! Like I can name a few artists who are near, but not on, the the line of what should be considered manga. Like Eiichiro Oda for example, Tite Kubu for another, and Misashi Kishimoto. These guys are practically the giants if the industry, (or titans  if you like THAT kind of manga.) Hardworking, dedicated, and somewhat crazy about their work.

And yet, when I look on through the computer screen, all I see is trash, and lots of it! Sloppy art, wonky eyes, the close enough mentality, you name it! The artists are either lazy, shallow, or just trying to show off. (With disastrous results, most of them...) Now I don't mean to stereotype a lot of you here, many of you are as hard working as the three musketeers above, maybe more. Yet, the art is either slightly, or WAY too far off the mark. I could name a few examples, but I value my life.

On a stream type thingamajig, I had a little talk with Hopefulhotaru: hopefulhota.tumblr.com/
a while ago about what should be considered manga art and what shouldn't. I shared a link to my "I'm Sorry, Which One's Manga Again?" drawing, and I think she said something like both or neither, I can't remember exactly. But then it escalated to the point where, "Everything's considered manga." or something like that. At the time I agreed with her, but in hindsight, I thought, "If everything's considered manga, nothing is." So I couldn't accept such a statement.

But we can all agree on one thing... MANGA IS JAPANESE FOR COMICS... (Don't say whimsical pictures, that's a whole different ball field.)

But I think it that, plus the high standards set by publishers and whatnot, and the fact that most manga characters look more or less the same. Not always true, but the stereotype still stands. Diversity can be a problem for manga artists, because it's tough trying to create a different character while STILL trying to make him look manga like. But then I realized, CARTOONISTS DEPEND ON DIVERSITY. Can you imagine if all the cartoons in the USA looked like Spongebob Squarepants, or Adventure Time characters? NO!!

So that's why I've decided to become a cartoonist, more or less. To stand out from the crowd, to break away from the status quo, and do something different for a change...

Now before I leave, I'd like to say that most of my work will still be very manga like, but I'll be trying different things in the future. In fact I already have!

See ya!~Sir Gumshoe The Cartoonist

Good morning everyone! You're lookin' groovy today! (Who says groovy these days? [Oh right, ME!])

In more serious news, I'm starting to feel like I've worn out my welcome on this site: www.christianmanga.com/

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad site. Oh absolutely not!! I just personally feel a little lost in this sea of talent. That and the cold responses I get whenever I open my piehole, like these for instance: christianmanga.com/smf/index.p…

christianmanga.com/smf/index.p…

christianmanga.com/smf/index.p…

christianmanga.com/smf/index.p… (Now I know you're thinking, "What are you talking about Gumshoe? I don't see any cold responses to this?" Well I just included it because after I posted it, one of the users sent me a Private Message saying, "That's a little to strict, why not try this?" Well my Japanese isn't exactly the best, I just think the user's either trying to help me, or being a condescending know-it-all. I really don't trust random people on the internet on subjects like this, and OTHER ONES. No offence, but that's just me.)

christianmanga.com/smf/index.p…

These aren't negative replies they give me per say, in fact it seems like they're trying to help me/boost my I.Q.

BUT THAT'S NOT HOW MY BRAIN SEES IT... My brain sees, "You suck!" "Why are you even on this site?!" "Did you take stupid pills this morning?!" "That's not how it works, you idiot!" "This is my style man, and if you have a problem with it, GET THE HECK OUT YOU BUM!" "Maybe the reason no one likes you is because YOU'RE UNLIKABLE!!"

*WHEW!!* Glad I got that out of my system. Now I don't hate these people, nor do I love them. Heck, I don't even KNOW them! All I see are icons and usernames on a screen. That's it! Nothing more!

Right now, I feel like should just kick the bucket and ditch them, cold turkey... But then they've also given me the most support/feedback/watchers and I couldn't be more grateful to them... I guess just I don't want to admit that I'm not the smartest guy on the block, or ANYWHERE ELSE for that matter! I just think they're a little too persnickety, that's all.

But then this is just me, what do you think? Should I stay on this forum, despite the cold responses to the stupid comments I made/will make in the future, or leave it behind and move on?

[P.S. I've been thinking about starting a Tumblr account, agree or disagree?]
